KALOFER

The city of Kalofer is situated in the central part of Bulgaria -
60 km. away from the second in Bulgaria big city - Plovdiv,
18 km. from the municipality center - the city of Karlovo and
150 km. from the capital - the city of Sofia. The resorts - city of Hisar, Banya and Pavel Banya - rich of mineral water springs are situated near Kalofer, which offers a good possibility for combining health procedures with mineral water and a rest filled with fresh mountain air and fresh evenings along the river of Tundzha.

The city is founded in the beginning of the Turkish slavery
by the local rebel Kalifer, and that's where its name came from. It is a birthplace of the revolutioner-poet Hristo Botev, the first bulgarian professor Nikola Mutev, first bulgarian female poet Elena Muteva and other famous bulgarian people. It's a good start point for cultural tourism by routes west of Kalofer - Karlovo, Sopot, Klisura, Koprivshtitsa, Strelcha, Panagyurishte...

To NorthEast - the city of Kazanlak, the town of Shipka, Shipka peak, Etara ethnographic area, the city of Gabrovo. My opinion is that every bulgarian, or guest of Bulgaria, at least once has to visit these cities , deeply connected with bulgarian history.

The city is situated in the foot of Stara Planina and Sredna Gora mountains, crossed by Tundzha river, springing from the mountain. The crystal-clear river Byala Reka is 7 km. away. In Kalofer mountains there are possibilities for pedestrian, horse-riding and bike tourism. Here you can find the highest peak in Stara Planina mountain - Botev peak,
the famous in whole world South Dzhendem and the highest waterfall in the Balkans - - Rayskoto Praskalo. The city is one of the few left places in the country where the old bulgarian traditions like Koleduvane (Christmas tradition), Yordanov Day, Zagovezni, St.George Day and others, are still alive.

The city meets you every morning with worm "Welcome" by the sound of bells ringing from its four churches and two monasteries. There is much more to be written about Kalofer, but please be welcome to drink with us a glass of strong "rakia" called traditional drink, and I will tell you long and interesting stories. Find also on the market the four books about Kalofer.
